Koh-I-Noor introduced Wax Aquarelle pencils in 2004. The emulsification wax used in the pencils allow you to change the characteristic of pastels from water-resistant to water soluble. The key components of Wax Aquarell coloured pencils are rich, high-quality, perfectly dispersed pigments in clay, usually white, characterized by high clarity and superior quality. The combination of high-quality ingredients, binders and other additives help give a unique effect on paper and other media. Applying thicker layers and overlapping colours (shades) allows colour mixing and consequently the creation of entirely new colours, similar to the oil and tempera. The highly pigmented core helps with the light permanency and durability of the art work, whereas the high quality clay ensures excellent water solubility, with the aquarelle effect achieved with the use of just a few drops of water applied to it via a wet brush. The concentration of pigments is higher than student-grade water soluble coloured pencils. Wax Aquarell pencils are the perfect instrument for the professional artist. The Wax Aquarell colour pencils are manufactured using Precious Wood which allows for easy sharpening.

Koh-I-Noor Wax Aquarell Pencils are available individually and in sets. There are 48 colours in the entire range. Each pencil is 11.5 mm thick, with a 6 mm lead and 123 mm long. Pencils are pre-sharpened and ready to use as soon as you get your hands on the box. These pencils are similar to Caran d’Ache Neoart Aquarelle Sticks.
